Happy Days layout for Doodlebug Design

Do you like making grid design layouts... ? I don't know if it's something for everyone, but I LOVE them and it's been quite some time, since I made one, so I really enjoyed making this layout.
What I love about grid designs, is that they are so easy and they come together super fast, plus, they always turn out fun.
For my layout, I started by choosing the patterned papers that I wanted to use. I used the Fairy Garden collection for this layout which has amazingly cute papers. I chose four that have a white background and colorful pattern and then five that only have one color. I backed them with white paper and distressed the edges. Then I backed them with white paper once more but used foam tape this time, to make them pop and to create some shadows. I distressed the edges again to make the whole thing more fun and interesting.
I adhered my nine squares to a blue patterned paper with clouds that I had splattered with white paint just before.
I used a photo of me and my girlfriends, matted it on white, then colorful patterned paper and adhered it to the layout.
Then I went through all of the embellishments from the collection and spent some time choosing and deciding what I wanted to do and where I wanted to place everything.
I kind of did a vertical design by leaving the upper right and bottom left corner a bit more empty. Just those two blank spots help the whole layout seem less overcrowded and give the eyes a place to rest. For the rest, I used die-cut pieces, enamel shapes, enamel dots and jewels. I also used a Doodle Pop rainbow with clouds, love it!!
I adhered some of the embellishments with liquid glue, directly onto the paper, and other ones I adhered using foam squares. I love it when the layout has different dimensions and has those shadows you create when you use dimensional adhesives.
I love the word die-cuts from Doodlebug. There's always a word you can use for your title. I love to pair those with alpha stickers in different fonts.

Are you already enjoying springy sunny weather where you live? Well I can honestly tell you that I will go crazy if spring doesn't start soon here in Luxembourg... :) That's why I love creating super bright and sunny layouts, so I can look at them, rather to look outside my windows... LOL!!
For this layout, I absolutely wanted to use a cute Doodlebug cutfile. I went through the cutfiles in the shop and found these cute planters. I cut them out, using Doodlebug cardstock in pink, blue, some brown and two different shades of green. I adhered all the pieces together after shading them a bit, using a dauber and my Distress Oxides.
For my background, I did a bit of mixed media, by prepping my page with gesso and then using acrylics and acrylic inks and a lot of water. I decided to go with bright green and teal colors for the background and when everything was dry, I added white splatters with my Montana marker... of course... :)
When my background was ready, I took my two plants and put them on my page just to see where exactly I wanted to place them. I adhered them using foam tape and little foam squares to create dimension and shadows on my layout.
I used a photo I took two years ago, when I was on vacation in Italy and we visited Isola Bella. I think that photo matches the vibe of the layout perfectly... magical, springy and like a fairytale... haha. I matted the photo on pink patterned paper and then some vellum and adhered it to the layout, letting some of the leaves of the plants overlap it.
Then came the best part: embellishing! For my title, I used some alpha letters in black, the die-cut piece saying "beautiful" and I hand-cut the letters to write "place" from different patterned papers from the collection.
I used flower stickers from the sticker roll, enamel shapes and dots and jewels... Can't have enough of those!! I also cut hand-cut out a sun from yellow paper to place behind my photo and fill up a bit of the white space on the upper part of the layout.
I LOVE the cute little snails on the planters... so ADORABLE! To finish, I placed a Doodle Pops fairy on one of the planters, which was the perfect final touch.

I don't know about you all, but I love the new Fairy Garden collection. It's perfect to document your Easter and spring photos but it really can be used for anything at all, as long as you want to create something bright and fun and happy... ;)
Here's my first layout created with this pretty collection,
When I first got the collection, the big die cut flowers immediately jumped to my eyes. I knew I wanted to assemble them, hand-stitch them and use them as big embellishments on my page. So I did! :)
I love the size of them, they are big but not too big and they have the perfect flower shapes and colors.
I needed a cool background for my fun flowers, so I thought it would be fun to create a kind of weaved pattern, like a weaved basket, to put my flowers onto. I cut approximately 1/2 and 1/4 inch stripes from a lot of patterned papers and then ripped them in two to have smaller pieces. Then I weaved them together and adhered them in two opposite corners.
Then I wanted to make it more distressed and give it more texture and dimension, so first I went over some parts with gesso and watercolors and then I stitched over some of the stripes with straight and zig-zag stitches. I love how that turned out.
It was finally time to adhere my flowers to my page. I attached them using thick foam squares. After that, I used the leaves that were included in the same pack as the flowers, I shaded and distressed the borders and added them to the layout.
I matted my photo with some scraps of patterned paper and then also added it to the layout. For my title, I used a word die cut saying "Hello" and some Abigail alpha stickers to write the word "Spring".
To make the layout cuter, I went through all of the embellishments to choose the ones I wanted to add. I love that part and Doodlebug collections always have so many choices... :)
I added some glitter enamel dots, jewels, enamel shapes (Sprinkles), die cut pieces and a flower clip. To finish I sprinkled some gold ink.

Funny Bunnies layout for Doodlebug Design

Have you seen the new Hippity Hoppity cutfiles yet? Well I already used some and I can tell you... whatever you create with them, it's going to turn out suuuuuper duper cute...!
Here's the layout I came up with...
If you've known me for a while, you know I love to create little characters on my layouts. I also love putting cute little bows on them and using tons and tons of flowers.
So for this layout, I used a bunny head cutfile and cut it out three times, while using three different colors for the backgrounds and inner part of the ears. I love the Doddlebug cardstock, the colors are sooo vibrant and you always find the perfect colors for your project.
I also used a cutfile with small flowers and leaves and cut them out, using pink, teal, yellow, white and green.
Before adhering all the pieces together, I used some Distress Oxides in matching colors, to create shadows all around the different parts of the bunnies and flowers. I love the dimension that it gives.
I put my bunnies together and then I hand-stitched some details on the ears of the bunnies and also on the leaves and some of the flowers.
To make the bunnies even cuter, I created some bows and used Doodlebug twine in pink, yellow and teal.
Then I started placing everything on my page that I had prepared with a bit of mixed media before. I matted my photo on a few scraps of paper from the 6x6 paper pad and also placed it on the layout. When everything looked how I liked, I started adhering everything.
Then I went through my Hippity Hoppity collection and used all the things that I thought would complete the layout. I added some carrots, jewels, glitter enamel dots, enamel chicks and doodle pops chicks and flowers.
For my title, I used three different fonts, Skinny, Abigail and Sunshine. To make them stand out more in front of the colored background, I traced around them with matching colors. Then I splattered some paint and I was done! :)

It's almost Easter and I can't wait to create more Easter projects. Even though, I don't celebrate Easter in the traditionnal, religious way, I think it's a perfect holiday to celebrate the beginning of Spring and all the happy and good things we have in our lives :) I love to use pastel colors for Easter and the new Hippity Hoppity collection has just the right mix of cute colors.
This time, I decided to create two cute cards, using the stamps and dies, glitter, sequins and my favorite patterned paper from the collection.
I don't use stamps very often and since I prefer to create layouts, I'm not used to use them. But the stamps and matching dies in the collection are so cute, that I thought I absolutely needed to use them.
So I started by stamping out the images that I wanted to have for my cards, with black ink and then I painted them using watercolors.
While those were drying, I cut out rectangles from white cardstock and my favorite patterned paper from the collection. I splattered some paint on the white cardstock to create texture and interest on the background, then I adhered it to the patterned paper.
When my little icons were dry, I cut them, using the matching dies.
To give the little critters a cute little touch, I added some glitter to some parts of the bodies and to the bow on the basket of eggs. It's looks amazing... I LOVE holographic glitter!! :)
While that was drying, I adhered my background to card bases in blue and pink, that I had created using Doodlebug cardstock. I then thought that it needed more detail and I decided to stitch all around the white cardstock, using a color changing, pastel thread.
I added my little images to the cards using foam squares, to make them pop, and also added a sentiment from the Chit Chat die cuts.
Finally, I stitched on some sequins with a french knot.
I really love how the cards turned out.
They are super simple, but the stitched border, glitter and sequin details, make them look so cute and perfect.

Who's excited for spring and Easter and pastel and everything bright and fun? Definitely me!! :)
Here's my first layout using Hippity Hoppity, the new Doodlebug Easter collection.
For this layout, I wanted to use the collection, without using too many Easter items. So to start, I created a circle with my gelatos, using pink, green, yellow and orange. While I was doing that, I let my Silhouette cut out some Doodlebug cutfiles. I used some different leaves and a tiny flower included in a tree cutfile. Before placing everything on the circle, I sprinkled it with white acrylic paint.
Then I placed all my leaves and my flowers down, creating a wreath. I love all the cute colors. I used some patterned papers form the 6x6 Hippity Hoppity Paper Pad and also some from the Dot-Stripe petite prints 6x6 paper pad.
Then I used the Jewels to put in the centers of the little flowers. I didn't put one in all of them, but a lot of them. I also used some of the glitter sprinkles, tiny hearts from the mini icon stickers, flowers and a sun from the die cut pieces and the "Hop On" doodle-pop.
The photo I used is one I took last year, during one of the workshops I held at my house. I matted it on leftover pieces of patterned paper and placed it next to the wreath.
For the title, I used die-cuts from the Chit-Chat icons and pink Abigail Alphas. I finished the layout by sprinkling gold paint all over.

I'm so excited to be sharing my very first project with you today.
The Made with Love collection was the perfect collection to start with, since I'm totally in the mood for hearts and sweetness. Take a look at my layout featuring a bit of everything from this amazing collection.
I wanted to showcase my style by creating big hand-stitched embellishments. So I went through the Doodlebug cutfiles and chose the milk bottle and the cookies. I LOVE Doodlebug cutfiles, they're the cutest. I cut out the different pieces using Doodlebug cardstock and then I adhered them together. I hand-stitched around the borders using matching thread.
After doing some mixed media on my background sheet and matting my photo with some scraps of paper, I placed everything on the layout to see how I wanted to display each piece. When I was happy with how it looked, I adhered everything, using liquid glue and foam squares, to create dimension. For the title, I used the Abigail Alphas.
I wanted to have some splashes of milk popping out from the bottle, so I drew some on top of the bottle, but also in other places, to create balance. Then I went through all the embellishments from the collection and chose the pieces I wanted to use. I could spend hours choosing stuff and adding finishing touches... haha :) the cookie die-cuts and enamel sprinkles are to die for. But somehow I was able stop myself at some point.

The assignment for this week, was to use as many Florence Alpha stickers as possible. :) I really thought a loooong time about this and couldn't really come up with something I liked... haha! :) But then I finally had an idea that I thought could work... I wanted to list all the things I liked and use as many colors of the rainbow as I could.
So to start, I wanted to have a rainbow background. I used watercolors with a lot of water and put down color after color, letting it flow in different directions and letting the next color mix and blend with the previous one. After I had all the colors, I dried them with my heat gun. Then I went back and did some platters of the same colors on top. I dried it again and topped it with white splatters.
I used my stitching machine to create a messy white line and give me a base to put my words on. I used a lot of the Florence Alpha stickers and wrote down a few of the things I love the most.
Then I chose my photo and backed it with some white paper, some vellum and some patterned papers that matched with the colors on the background. I adhered it with foam tape. Then I went through my embellishments and chose some chipboard and ephemera flowers. I placed them on my layout, trying to find the best placement.
Before adhering my flowers, I wanted to create my title. I wanted to write "That's me" but after placing the "me" down, I couldn't find the right way to incorporate the words "that's"...! I tried writing it on pink paper and cutting it out, I tried some Florence stickers, I tried some bold hand-cut letters... but nothing seemed to work. So I just decided to leave it that way... :)
I adhered the title using foam squares and then adhered all the flowers, some flat to the paper and some using foam to create dimension. I also used some tangled thread behind the red flowers and put enamel dots in their centers.
Then I added some white chipboard hearts and used some watercolor to paint the title and hearts. I LOVE the look that gives. :)
To finish, I wanted to have more abstract leaves around the flowers. So I took some vellum and traced some strands with leaves with a black pen and a pencil. I cut them out and added them around the flowers. Some more splatters and I was done! :)

I really love this month's mood board, here it is...
What I reeeaaallly love on this mood board, is the middle square on the bottom. I'm just in love with the colors, the brush strokes, the way the colors mix and the little details in white and gold. So I really wanted to make a fun, artsy background for my page and I also wanted to include some flowers.
I started with my background. I chose my colors, trying to recreate the color scheme from the mood board. There's no rule to making such a background. I just used my colors, one after the other, painting some strokes of each color and making them blend in some places. At the end, I added the white parts and also some white and black splatters.
I let my background dry and chose a Bella Blvd cutfile in the Silhouette store. I chose this cute cat and cut it out from a gray patterned paper, since my cat is gray. :)
Then I also created three flowers by hand-cutting flower shapes from 3 different patterned papers. I adhered them together, starting with the bigger flower and going smaller. For the center of the flower, I created some wonky-shaped circles in black. I used black to balance the black in the photo and the black splatters. The picture I used, is one of my cat. I printed it in black and white, since I had already enough color going on in the background. I matted it on two different patterned papers.
I laid down all my elements to see how I wanted everything to look like and then I went into my embellishments and chose some pieces that matched. I used some ephemera circles in different colors and I used some puffy stars in two shades of pink. Then I adhered everything on my background, glueing some things directly to the paper and using some foam squares to adhere other pieces.
To finish, I created my title. I chose the word "Happy" from a cardstock sticker sheet. The letters were pink but I wanted something that really popped off the page and I also wanted to come back with more black. So I painted the letters with black ink. To complete the title, I used some black Florence Alpha stickers.
I had so much fun creating this layout and I really like how it turned out. :)
I hope you are inspired to create an artsy background. Just choose a color scheme and brush on some paint. It's very easy and it looks so cool. Also... have you checked out the new Bella Blvd cutfiles?? Soooo cute!!! :)
