Good times layout for DOODLEBUG

Tuesday, August 23, 2022

OMG... I just love the new collection, called SEASIDE SUMMER. It's so cute and fresh and you just want to put on your swimsuit and go to the beach when you look at it... :) I decided to create a layout for my first project using this collection... layouts are my favorite thing to do when creating.

So here's what I came up with... I totally love it... heheee!

When I went through the patterned papers for the first time, I noticed this adorable paper with tiny shells and starfish. I knew it was going to be a lot of fussy cutting, but I absolutely wanted to create something with these.

I came up with the idea to create beaded strands with the shells, sequins and glass beads.

So to start, I cut out a lot of teeny tiny shells. Then I chose matching colors of sequins from my Doodlebug sequins collection and I added some tiny glass beads from my stash.

Before I began with the threading of the strands, I chose a photo, matted it with some pieces of patterned paper and added it to my white background.

To create the beachy, tropical strands, I used a holographic thread (that you can't really see anymore...:) and threaded the paper pieces, beads and sequins, just using the colors randomly in order to have a very colorful result.
I pierced the thread through the paper, added the embellishments and went through the paper again to attach the strand to it.

I wanted the pieces to stay put more or less, so I put a tiny bit of glue behind each shell.

To decorate some more, I wanted to add three flower clusters. I used flowers and leaves from the Bits&Pieces pack, gave them some dimension by bending them and placed them in three different spots, also adding some tangled thread.

Then I quickly added my title; a piece from the Chit Chat pack. To finish with some more details, I addded super small enamel dots and jewels around the three flower spots. And after that, I also sprinkled some paint.

I'm super happy with how this turned out and will for sure use this technique again :)

See you soon... I hope you are spending a beautiful summer.:)

Love coming home layout for DOODLEBUG DESIGN

For this layout I was in the mood for something simple, yet colorful and happy. I decided to go with the Shadowbox kit and create a layout with it...

For my background, I absolutely wanted to use this rainbow patterned paper which I love so much!!
To start, I drew a circle on the paper. I chose my photo and backed it with a piece of patterned paper from the 6x6 paper pad, then I adhered it to the background.

I used the Shadow Box kit from the My Happy Place collection which consists of cardstock stickers, a pack of jewels and a pack of enamel shapes. I adhered the photo first to see where I needed to place all the rest. Then I started with the big stickers and adhered them in a balanced way, considering the colors and the size. Then I went smaller and smaller, filling up more and more of the space. To fill up the last tiny holes, I used the tiny enamel dots and jewels.

To create a bit of dimension and interest and to have a visual triangle, I adhered three of the stickers using thick foam squares and adding tangled thread behind them.
For the title, I used a die cut from the Chit&Chat pack and some alpha stickers in three different fonts.

To add a last little accent, I stitched a circle all round the stickers, using white thread and a chainlink stitch. Then I added white splatters.

I think I'll be using more of this collection the next months, because I quit my job as a teacher to work from home 100% and I'm super excited. So I'll be able to spend a lot of time with my kitty and take more home photos, heheeee! :)

This kind of layout is also a cool idea to use up a lot of left over stickers from any collection. You can even create other shapes, it always looks cute. :)

Thank you for stopping by and see you soon!
